A masked man escaped with a four-figure sum of cash after carrying out an armed raid on a Bookmakers in Port Glasgow, police said.

The man entered the Ladbrokes shop in Dubbs Road at about 21:15 on Saturday.

He threatened a member of staff with a weapon. The 56-year-old woman was not injured but was left "traumatised" by the incident.

Detectives have urged anyone with information to come forward.

The suspect is described as white male, about 6ft in height and of slim/medium build.

He was wearing a black hooded jacket, blue hooded jumper and grey tracksuit bottoms with black lines down each leg and white trainers. His face was obscured with a black balaclava.

Det Insp George McAllister said: "I am anxious to speak to anyone who was in the area of Dubbs Road after 9pm on Saturday night. They may have seen the suspect hanging about in the area prior to the robbery.

"It is believed he made off on foot and I would urge anyone who saw this man to contact police."
