Man held over security van robbery in North Lanarkshire

Security van robbery in Tannochside Police cordoned off the area around the Scotmid shop in Viewpark following the robbery

A man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery on a security van outside a shop in North Lanarkshire.

During the incident, a security guard was threatened with what appeared to be a firearm outside the Scotmid store on Old Edinburgh Road, Viewpark.

The masked suspect escaped with a five-figure sum of cash last Friday morning.

Police said a 26-year-old man had been arrested over the incident. He is expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday.

Det Insp Kevin Jamieson, of Police Scotland, said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank local people for their help and assistance during this investigation, we welcome their co-operation and with their constant support we will continue to keep people safe."
