Pensioner dies in crash at East Kilbride roundabout

An 86-year-old woman has died and her husband has been seriously injured after their car crashed into a roundabout in East Kilbride.

The crash, involving a red Ford Fiesta, happened at The Centre roundabout, Cornwall Way, at about 13:35.

The 91-year-old driver and his wife were freed from the car and taken to Hairmyres Hospital where the woman died a short time later.

The driver's condition has been described as "serious".

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

PC Ann Alexander, from Police Scotland, said: "The roundabout is near the bus stop and is a busy area for traffic.

"I would ask that anyone who saw the crash or who have any information that will help with our inquiries, contact officers at Motherwell."
