Police are hunting a man who robbed a bookmakers in North Ayrshire after threatening a female member of staff.

The man escaped with a three-figure sum of cash from William Hill in Eglinton Street, Beith, at 21:00 on Wednesday.

The female worker was not injured but said to have been "very upset".

Police said the suspect was wearing a motorcycle helmet, black motorcycle jacket and jeans. Officers have asked anyone with information about the robbery to contact them.

Det Sgt Graham Duncan, of Police Scotland, said: "We believe that the suspect left on foot, however he was wearing a motorcycle helmet and motorcycle jacket and may have had access to a motorbike.

"I would ask anyone who was in the area around the relevant time and saw someone answering the description of the suspect to come forward."
