Gang attacks man in 'unprovoked' assault in Glasgow

A 29-year-old man is in hospital after an "unprovoked" assault by a gang of youths in Glasgow.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident which happened near Cardonald railway station at about 23:00 on Saturday.

The victim had been walking home with friends when he was chased by a gang of youths and attacked.

He was then helped to the Southern General Hospital by his two friends.

Police said the three of them were walking along Tormore Street when they noticed a group of six or seven males behind them who started chasing them along the road.

The group caught up with the victim and subjected him to a serious assault before they made off back up Berryknowes Road towards the station.

The men were not able to get good descriptions of the group other than they are all white, Scottish and aged in their late teens to early 20s.

Det Con Kenneth Johnston said: "This appears to be an unprovoked attack on the man who was making his way home with his friends, and thankfully they had the presence of mind to take him to the nearby hospital.

"Extensive inquiries are continuing and I would appeal to anyone who was in the Berryknowes Road, Tormore Street area around 23:00 on Saturday night and saw a group of men to get in touch."
