Man, 79, dies after being hit by car in Blantyre

A 79-year-old man has died after he was hit by a car while crossing a road in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire.

Robert Holmes, from Blantyre, was crossing Burnbrae Road at its junction with Victoria Street when he was hit by a grey Honda CRV at 17:40 on Saturday.

He died later that night in Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride. The 61-year-old woman who was driving the Honda was not injured.

Police Scotland have appealed for witnesses to the crash to contact them.
