Two die as taxi and car collide in Renfrew

Two men have died in a crash involving a car and a taxi in Renfrew.

A Honda Civic car and a Hackney taxi collided on the A736 Hillington Road, close to its junction with Deanside Road, at about 00:20.

Both vehicles left the road. The Civic struck a tree and the taxi hit a fence.

The 23-year-old Honda driver and his passenger, aged 25, died at the scene. The 56-year-old taxi driver was not injured. His passenger, aged 44, was treated for minor injuries.

Sgt Jo McPherson, of Police Scotland, said: "Although this crash happened in the early hours of this morning, this is a busy junction and I am sure there would have been a number of other vehicles on the road who saw what happened."

He urged anyone with information to contact police.
