'Runaway lorry' causes fatal Largs crash

A male pedestrian aged 86 has died following a crash in Largs, which police believe was caused by a runaway lorry.

The accident happened in Waterside Street at about 11:30.

Police said they believed the unoccupied HGV rolled down the street and struck a car, which then hit the man and trapped him.

Fire service personnel managed to free him, but he died at the scene. Police Scotland appealed for witnesses.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been informed and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
