Man 'critical' after Cumbernauld stabbing attack

A 25-year-old man is "fighting for his life" after an "extremely violent" attack in Cumbernauld, police have said.

The attack, which is being treated as attempted murder, took place in "broad daylight" just after 18:30 on Saturday.

The man had been walking on a footpath on Stoneylee Road when he was stabbed several times on the neck and body.

He is being treated at Monklands General Hospital in Airdrie where his condition was said to be critical.

Det Ch Insp Pat Campbell said: "This was an extremely violent attack which has left a young man fighting for his life.

"It happened in broad daylight in a busy residential area so I'm convinced someone knows who's responsible."
