Three serious assaults in Govan

Extra police patrols are being carried out in the Govan and Penilee areas of Glasgow after three unconnected serious assaults on Sunday evening.

In the first incident, two 29-year-old men were attacked by three men with machetes near The Vital Spark pub in Govan Road at about 19:00.

An hour later a 24-year-old man was found in a house in Balbeg Street after being stabbed in the neck and thigh.

A 21-year-old man was attacked with a bottle in Gleddoch Park at 22:00.

Police said none of the injuries received by any of the men were life-threatening.

Det Insp Alan McAlpine said: "I wish to emphasise that attacks of this type are very rare.

"Police Scotland is working with local partners in these areas to track down the people responsible for these attacks and there are also extra patrols out in these areas to reassure local people."
