Police are trying to trace a detained patient who has absconded from Stobhill Hospital in Glasgow.

Joseph Moran left the hospital grounds at about 11:50 on Wednesday and was last seen a short time later at a relative's address in Drumchapel.

The 46-year-old suffers from mental health issues and requires medication.

Police have appealed for anyone who recognises Mr Moran to contact them and have advised the public that he should not be approached.

Mr Moran is described as white, about 5ft 10in tall, with receding sandy-coloured hair and green eyes.

He has a tattoo on his left arm and a distinctive birth mark on his forehead.

'Treatment required'

At the time he absconded, he was wearing a black Berghaus jacket and a blue and grey top with a white collar, blue jeans and black trainers.

Det Insp Davie Mackie, of Police Scotland, said: "Joseph Moran is a detained patient within Stobhill Hospital. He suffers from mental health issues and requires medication.

"It is imperative that he returns to the hospital where he can receive the medical treatment required.

"Despite extensive inquiries, all efforts to trace him have met with a negative result. If anyone recognises him I would urge them to contact police and not to approach him.

"Similarly, if anyone knows of his whereabouts please do not shelter him as he needs medical care."
