A 41-year-old man who was attacked in Hamilton on Tuesday, along with his mother, has died in hospital.
Police had been investigating an attempted murder on James Baillie, from Hamilton, and a serious assault on his 64-year-old mother.
However, Mr Baillie died in Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride, on Friday. A Police Scotland spokesman said his death was now being treated as murder.
His mother was released from hospital after treatment.
The pair were attacked following a row with a number of other people in Buchanan Crescent, Hamilton, at 21:00 on Tuesday.
Mr Baillie received a serious head injury while his mother had serious injuries to her arm, head and face.
