The duo stole a three-figure sum of money and some personal items from the flat in Rannoch Drive, Renfrew.

One of the robbers, who was carrying what appeared to be a gun and was wearing a balaclava, was struck by a car as the duo fled on foot.

Police said it had been a "harrowing" experience for the 33-year-old victim.

The robbers, who both had local accents, forced their way into the property at about 18:15 on Thursday.

The man carrying the gun was about 6ft tall, white, and was wearing a balaclava and a dark, padded, waterproof jacket.

The other man was about 5ft 4in tall, white, and was wearing a light blue hooded top.

Witness appeal

After leaving the flat, they ran off on foot past the nearby Jet Filling Station onto Inchinnan Road, where the man with the gun was struck by a silver Honda Jazz car.

He jumped up and ran off, with the pair last being seen heading towards North Lodge Road.

Det Insp Julie Henry said: "This was a particularly harrowing experience for the victim and we have yet to establish a motive.

"Inchinnan Road was very busy at that time of the evening and I have no doubt that many motorists would have seen the suspect being struck by the car.

"I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or saw the suspects at or near the flat to come forward."
