Police have named a man and a teenage girl who died after the car they were travelling in hit a wall in a town in South Lanarkshire.

Driver Graham Mathie, 21, from Coalburn, and his 16-year-old passenger, Jane Gilbert, from Lanark, died at the scene of the collision.

It happened on the B7078 Carlisle Road, in Lesmahagow, at about 20:25 on Sunday.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash to contact them.
