Man hit by bus after 'street attack' in Wishaw

A 29-year-old man is in a critical condition after being knocked down by a bus shortly after being assaulted in North Lanarkshire.

Police were called to reports of the assault on Caledonian Road, at its junction with Stewarton Street, in Wishaw, at about 18:05 on Sunday.

The man is being treated at Glasgow's Southern General Hospital after being transferred from Wishaw General.

Police are following a positive line of inquiry over the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 6.05pm on Sunday police were called to a report of a man having been knocked down by a bus after being assaulted on Caledonian Road at its junction with Stewarton Street in Wishaw.

"A 29-year-old man was taken to Wishaw General Hospital where doctors have described his condition as critical."
