Elderly woman dies in Clydebank house fire

An 86-year-old woman has died in a house fire in West Dunbartonshire.

Fire crews fought their way through a severe blaze in the ground floor of the property in the Parkhall area of Clydebank at about 18:30 on Monday.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said firefighters had battled through intense heat and thick smoke, but the elderly woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire is being investigated by the fire service and the police.
