Ross McIntyre faces jail for attack on Christopher Roe

A 33-year-old man is facing a jail term after he admitted an attack which inflicted life-threatening injuries on his girlfriend's ex-partner.

Ross McIntyre assaulted Christopher Roe after an argument about Lynsey Harte outside her flat in Cardwell Road, Gourock, Inverclyde, on 1 April 2012.

He was initially charged with attempted murder but pled guilty to assaulting Mr Roe to the danger of his life.

Sentence on McIntyre was deferred and he was remanded in custody.

The High Court in Glasgow heard how the attack happened shortly after midnight as McIntyre and his then-partner Ms Harte were socialising with others in her flat.

Minor tussle

Mr Roe was walking home from a night out and walked past his ex girlfriend's house and sat on the wall outside.

McIntyre, from Greenock, went outside and there was a minor tussle between the two men before a number of people, including Ms Harte, came out of the flat and ushered the accused back inside.

Ms Harte stayed outside and sat beside Mr Roe - who had walked away then returned - and spoke to him and gave him a hug before going back inside the house.

McIntyre then emerged from the house to confront Mr Roe and after a short conversation punched his victim in the chest, knocking him to the ground.

He then continued the attack by kicking him repeatedly about the head and torso.

The court was told Mr Roe suffered "critical" injuries, including a serious head injury and fractured ribs and was placed on a ventilator.

He still has ongoing issues with short-term memory and is not expected to make a full recovery.
