Glasgow School of Art opens Institute of Design Innovation
A specialist institute that aims to encourage business growth through design has been opened at Glasgow School of Art's (GSA) Skypark campus.
The Institute of Design Innovation will showcase how design skills and creative thinking can be embedded in the culture of companies to propel them forward.
It will help transfer art school expertise to firms in areas such as product and market development.
The facility was opened on Wednesday by Finance Secretary John Swinney.'Sustainable innovation'
Professor Irene McAra-McWilliam, head of GSA's design school and director of the new institute, said: "There is currently much talk about the crucial importance of design, creativity and innovation in developing successful businesses and services.
"However, the question that is seldom addressed in any practical detail is: how do you do that?
"Through the new Institute of Design Innovation Glasgow School of Art will show clearly how design skills and creative thinking can be embedded in organisations in such a way that innovation is sustainable."
As well as the Skypark campus, the new institute will also be based initially at the business incubation organisation, Horizon Scotland, in Forres.
