A law firm which was instructed by former Rangers owner Craig Whyte in a bid to sue the BBC has dropped a court case against him.

Bannatyne Kirkwood France and Co were employed by Mr Whyte, 41, in November last year, after the corporation aired a documentary about him.

The law firm's case against him was due to call this month for a hearing.

It has now emerged that the law firm requested in advance of the hearing that the case be dismissed.

No papers with details of the case were available at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
