Inverclyde Council offers equal pay claims settlement

Inverclyde Council has offered £1.6m to settle equal pay claims by up to 400 current and former employees.

The claims were submitted by the GMB union, on behalf of female staff, who were considered to have been underpaid in comparison with male colleagues.

The authority said it was "pleased" to have come to an agreement to settle a "large number of outstanding employment tribunal claims for equal pay".

The GMB union will now recommend that its members accept the offer.

Inverclyde Council chief executive John Mundell said: "I am pleased that the council and the GMB have come to an agreement to settle the outstanding claims and that their members will now be compensated."
