Man raped near Dowanhill Park in Glasgow's west end

An investigation is under way after a man was raped in Glasgow's west end in the early hours of the morning.

The 25-year-old was attacked while walking close to Dowanhill Park, near Hyndland Street and Highburgh Road, between midnight and 02:00.

The man had approached the suspect to ask for a cigarette but was subjected to a serious sexual assault.

The suspect is described as white, about 6ft tall, in his early 20s, with fair hair and a heavy build.

At the time of the attack he was wearing a long black jacket and satchel type bag across his body.

'Frightening experience'

He was also described as having an east coast accent.

Det Insp Steven Watson, of Strathclyde Police, said: "This young man has suffered a frightening experience and is very distressed by the incident.

"I would ask that anyone who saw someone fitting the description or acting suspiciously to contact police.

"I am particularly keen to speak with a young man aged about 20 to 25 years, with a Glasgow accent, wearing a light-coloured hooded top who the victim approached shortly after the incident."
