Teenager crossing M74 motorway at Hamilton hit by car

A teenager is in a critical condition in hospital after being struck by a car while attempting to cross the M74 motorway in South Lanarkshire.
The 16-year-old boy and a friend were trying to cross near J6, Hamilton, when the crash happened at 21:40 on Monday.
He was hit by a southbound black Citroen C2, driven by a 40-year-old woman, with her son, eight, inside.
The woman and her son were treated for shock and later released from hospital. Police have appealed for witnesses.
The injured teenager was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital and later transferred to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.
The southbound carriageway of the motorway, near Strathclyde Park, remained closed for about three hours after the incident.
