Man, 79, dies after being hit by car in Uddingston

A 79-year-old man has died after being hit by a car in South Lanarkshire.

The man was struck by a black Ford Kuga as he crossed Main Street, Uddingston, near to Gardenside Avenue, at about 17:25 on Monday.

He was taken by ambulance to Monklands Hospital in Airdrie where he died. The car driver was not injured.

The road was closed for five hours following the incident. Strathclyde Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash to contact them.
