George Gallagher jailed for murdering Joseph Ferguson

A 34-year-old man has been jailed for life for beating a man unconscious and then slitting his throat.

George Gallagher was convicted of murdering 26-year-old Joseph Ferguson, from Cambuslang, at Morgan Street, Larkhall, on 21 December last year.

The High Court in Glasgow heard how he attacked Mr Ferguson before slitting his throat several times.

Judge Lord Tyre told Gallagher he must serve a minimum of 20 years before being eligible for parole.

The judge told Gallagher: "You may be in prison for longer, it depends on the parole board.

"During a short period of time you subjected Joseph Ferguson to a vicious attack and then as he lay seriously injured you went back to where he lay on the street and slit his throat a number of times.

"You have viciously taken the life of an unfortunate young man and shown no remorse for it."

Co-accused Jason Reid, 30, who was also facing a murder charge, had the case against him found not proven by the jury.
