Ex-footballer Alex Williams faces designer drugs charges

A former SPL footballer is among three people who are to stand trial accused of dealing in designer drugs.

Alex Williams, 29, from Govan, Glasgow, denies being concerned in the supply of stimulants only made illegal by the Home Office in the last two years.

The ex-Stirling Albion and Ayr United player is charged along with Kristopher O'Malley, 26, and Natalie Hughes, 28, both of Glenboig, North Lanarkshire.

At the High Court in Glasgow, trial was set for January next year.

Mr Williams is alleged to have acted along with Mr O'Malley in supplying the Class B drugs on 16 September last year at a number of locations in North Lanarkshire and Glasgow.

The drugs involved are Methylenedioxymethcathinone, known Methylone, and 2-Naphthyl Provalerone, known as Naphyrone

Mr O'Malley and Ms Hughes also face separate drugs charges, including being concerned in the supply of heroin and cocaine. They deny all the charges against them.

Mr Williams was also on the books of Clyde and Morton. He was latterly with Stenhousemuir, but is believed to be currently without a club.
