Natasha Paton death: Inquiry date set into fatal bus crash

A fatal accident inquiry into the death of a teenage girl - who died in a bus crash on a school trip - is to start in November, it has been confirmed.

Natasha Paton, 17, was killed after a coach carrying 39 pupils and five staff from Lanark Grammar School crashed during a snowstorm.

The bus hit a bridge and went into a river on the A73 near Biggar, South Lanarkshire, on 31 March 2010.

The Crown Office confirmed the inquiry will be held at Lanark Sheriff Court.

One of the main lines of the inquiry will be the decision to proceed with the journey despite such bad weather.

No prosecutions are being sought over the case.

Natasha, from Cleghorn, South Lanarkshire, was on a trip to Alton Towers theme park in Staffordshire when the accident happened.

The driver lost control of the vehicle on a bend during treacherous conditions on the A73 at Wiston.

The bus collided with a bridge and tumbled down an embankment where the front end came to be submerged in the river.
