Five rescued from takeaway fire

Five people were rescued uninjured after a fire broke out in a city centre takeaway.

Firefighters were called to the Express Takeaway in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, at 21:40 on Tuesday.

On arrival, the crews encountered a well-developed blaze, with flames and smoke coming from the front and rear of the building.

Five people were led to safety from the three floors of occupied flats above the shop.

Ambulance crews also attended the incident but no injuries were reported.

Firefighters remained at the scene for several hours cutting away fire damaged areas and to check for hidden fire spread.

A joint investigation into the cause of the fire is currently being carried out by Strathclyde Fire and Rescue and Strathclyde Police.
