Ibrox stabbing victim 'saved by friend's quick actions'

A man who was stabbed in the Ibrox area of Glasgow on Saturday only survived because of the quick actions of his friend, police said.

The two 29-year-old men were walking along Paisley Road West, near Ibrox library, at about 05:00 when they were approached by five men and two women.

One of the men was chased by the group before being stabbed.

Police said he lost a lot of blood and it was only because his friend acted quickly that it was not a murder probe.

The man suffered very serious injuries to his legs and remains in Glasgow's Southern General Hospital, in a stable condition. His friend was not injured.

Det Con Jane McCourt said: "This was a terrifying, unprovoked attack on a man who was making his way home from a night out with his friend.

"During the incident he suffered very serious injuries to his legs and considerable blood loss, and it is only thanks to the quick actions of his friend alerting the police and administering first aid that this is not a murder inquiry.

"We are examining CCTV and making door-to-door inquiries to try to identify the group of people responsible for this sickening attack, however, I'd like to appeal to anyone who was near to the location at the time this incident happened to get in touch with police.
