Arrest over 'fake police' incidents in Strathclyde

A 55-year-old man has been arrested over a number of incidents in Strathclyde in which he is alleged to have impersonated a police officer.

The man is accused of five incidents in which he robbed or attempted to gain access to people's homes.

It is alleged he was dressed as a member of the police on each occasion between April and July.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal. The man is expected to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court.

He is accused of an alleged abduction and robbery of an 85-year old woman in the Newlands area of Glasgow on 9 April.

Later the same day it is alleged he tried to gain entry to the home of a 53-year-old in the Maryhill area of the city.

It is also alleged that on 1 June he stole a three figure sum of money from the home of a 51-year-old woman in the Plains area of Airdrie, while on 3 July he is accused of trying to gain access to a house in the Newlands area.

The man is also accused of stopping and searching an elderly man in Glasgow's west end on 12 July and stealing personal items from him.
