Man held over Airdrie v Ayr United smoke bomb incident

A man has been arrested after a smoke bomb was let off at a football match between Airdire and Ayr United.

The 40-year-old was detained at a house in Troon, South Ayrshire, at 07:00 on Tuesday by officers from the football co-ordination unit for Scotland.

The game between Airdrie and Ayr took place at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie on Wednesday 9 May.

The man being held by police is expected to appear at the town's Sheriff Court on 2 August.
