Man in court over attack on girl near Govan Asda

A man has appeared in court charged with attacking a nine-year-old girl near a supermarket.

Martin Hackett, 26, is accused of scarring the youngster, who was hurt outside Asda in the Govan area of Glasgow.

He appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday charged with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement and the danger of life.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

The girl was reported to have been struck on the head with a bottle as she walked home alone from the supermarket.

The incident happened at 18:00 on 22 June in Craigton Road.

The girl was helped by members of the public before being treated in Yorkhill Hospital for a head injury.
