Appeal after man found with serious injuries in Glasgow's Saltmarket
Police have appealed for information after a man was discovered in Glasgow city centre with serious injuries.
The 47-year-old was found unconscious in Trongate, opposite the Tolbooth Bar, Saltmarket, at about 21:00 on Tuesday.
He is being treated for a serious head injury at the Royal Infirmary. His condition was said to be "critical", but the cause of his injury is unknown.
The incident saw roads closed and severe traffic disruption on Wednesday morning. The roads have since reopened.
The injured man is described as white and about 6ft tall. He has salt and pepper grey hair and was clean shaven.
When found, he was wearing a black jacket, white top, jeans and brown boots.
Det Insp Jim Bradley, of Strathclyde Police, said: "At this time, we are trying to establish how this man came about his injuries. It is unclear whether he fell or was the victim of an assault.
"I would appeal to the two men who assisted him. Apparently they tendered first aid and put him in the recovery position before leaving the scene.
"I would also like to speak to a bus driver, who flagged down a passing ambulance.
"It is believed that the man had been in the Lamp Post public bar earlier in the evening and was headed for the Empire Bar, although it is unknown whether he went in there."
Det Insp Bradley said it was understood that the man may have been in bars in the Saltmarket area between 16:00 and 21:00 on Tuesday.
He added: "I am anxious to speak to anyone who recognises the description and saw him last night."
