Woman, 19, raped in Glasgow's west end

An investigation is under way after a 19-year-old woman was raped in Glasgow's busy west end at the weekend.

The teenager was attacked while walking in Lilybank Gardens, towards Ashton Lane, at about 02:00 on Saturday. The man then ran off into Ashton Lane.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 7in to 5ft 8in tall, of slim build, with a clear pale complexion.

He is in his early to mid 20s, spoke with a local accent and has short light, possibly blond hair.

At the time of the attack, the man was wearing a black full front zipped hooded top and dark-coloured tracksuit or jogging bottoms.

Det Insp Alan Brown, of Strathclyde Police, said: "This has been a very traumatic experience for this young woman and I would like to reassure the public that my officers are conducting extensive enquiries in the local area in an attempt to trace the person responsible for this attack as soon as possible.

"The area around Lilybank Gardens was particularly busy with people coming out of bars and clubs and I therefore would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the suspect hanging either prior to the attack or perhaps running off afterwards."
