Woman, 18, victim of sex assault in Glasgow

Police are appealing for witnesses after an 18-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Glasgow at the weekend.

The teenager stopped a man and asked for a cigarette on Paisley Road West at about 02:30 on Sunday.

As they sat on a wall smoking, he grabbed her and forced her into the car park of the Swallow Hotel, where she was sexually assaulted.

She then ran onto Paisley Road West, where she flagged down a silver private hire taxi.

The driver took the woman to a friend's house in Middleton Street, Govan, without charge.

'Extensive enquiries'

The woman reported the assault to police later that day.

The suspect was in his 40s, of medium build, slightly overweight and was wearing a dark leather jacket.

Det Con Sandy Ward, of Strathclyde Police, said: "Despite examining CCTV and carrying out extensive enquiries we have yet to trace any witnesses to this incident.

"I would like to speak to anyone who may have seen this woman and man sitting on the wall outside the Swallow Hotel.

"I especially would like the taxi driver who picked the woman up and drove her to Middleton Street to contact police."
