Police investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a Glasgow flat are now treating it as murder.

Emergency services were called to the flat in Lincoln Avenue, Knightswood, at 23:55 on Wednesday after reports of a fire.

The body of James Kerr, 34, was found inside.

Strathclyde Police said Mr Kerr had been the victim of a violent attack in his own home. A post mortem was expected to be carried out on Friday.

Det Ch Insp Stevie Grant said: "Our main focus is establishing a motive for this crime. We are currently carrying out extensive inquiries in the local area, including door-to-door enquiries and gathering and reviewing CCTV images.

"James suffered a violent attack within his home and I would appeal to anyone who may have seen or heard anything to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may appear, could be vital in helping us trace whoever is responsible for this crime.

"Extra officers are patrolling the area and anyone who has information or any concerns can approach them or the incident room which has been set up at Partick police office".
