Workers held in Glasgow takeaway immigration raids
A total of 11 people have been arrested during raids by immigration officials on Chinese and Indian takeaways in the Glasgow area.
UK Border Agency officers and police questioned staff at seven businesses.
Officers were checking immigration status and those who were alleged to have committed offences were arrested.
Six people were detained while steps are taken to remove them from the UK. Inquiries into the status of the remaining other five are ongoing.
The premises targeted were Supercook Chinese takeaway on Dalmarnock Road, Curry King on Bridgeton Cross, Spice Garden on London Road, 7 Spices on Carntyne Road, the New Manor Garden and Spice Chilli, both in the Baljaffray Shopping Centre, and Classic India on Douglas Street, Milngavie.
Phil Taylor, regional director of the UK Border Agency in Scotland and Northern Ireland, said: "We will not tolerate illegal working which threatens to damage our communities - it undercuts wages and exploits vulnerable workers."
