South Lanarkshire nursery worker faces sex charges

A nursery worker in South Lanarkshire has been charged with child sex and pornography offences.

Alexander Mortimer, 28, is accused of two counts of sexual assault of a young child.

He is also charged with two counts of taking an indecent photograph of a child and one count of possessing an indecent photograph of a child.

He made no plea or declaration when he appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court and was remanded in custody.

The worker, from Rutherglen, is employed by the local authority at one of its childcare centres.

A council spokeswoman said parents and staff at the centre had been told about the charges.

She added: "We are continuing to work with parents and staff at the nursery to give them all the support we can as the police investigation continues."
