Man found with serious injuries on roadside in Irvine

Police are treating an attack on a man found seriously injured on a roadside in Irvine, in Ayrshire, as attempted murder.

The 39-year-old victim was discovered on St Bride's Place at about 01:10. He had injuries to his head and face.

He was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where staff described his condition as serious but stable.

Officers were carrying out door-to-door inquiries and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

They were also gathering CCTV images in a bid to establish what happened to the man.

Det Insp Colin Drummond, from Strathclyde Police, said: "We are continuing inquiries into how this man came about his serious injuries. We know that local residents reported hearing voices in the street just prior to the man being found on the roadside.

"Due to the extent of his injuries, we have been unable to speak to the man just yet.

"However, I would urge anyone who may have been in the local area at the time the incident occurred to get in touch with police as soon as possible so that we can identify who is responsible for this violent assault."
