Drugs stolen from ambulance on 999 call in Blantyre

A paramedic response bag containing a variety of medicines was stolen from an ambulance attending an emergency call in South Lanarkshire on Boxing Day.

The bag was taken while medics attended the 999 call at an address in Logan Street, Blantyre, at about 13:00.

It was found on Tuesday in the garden of a house in the town's Anford Place, but the medicine pack was missing.

Police appealed for witnesses and said the drugs should only ever be taken under medical supervision.

The bag included medicines such as diazemuls, an intravenous diazepam, adrenaline, atropine, amiodrone and nitro-glycerine.

Medical supervision

Paramedics discovered it was missing from the ambulance after they returned from tending a patient.

Sgt Mark Stirling, of Strathclyde Police, said: "Firstly I am appealing to anyone who may have seen someone hanging around Logan Street around lunchtime on Boxing Day to get in touch, or anyone who noticed someone with a paramedic response bag.

"I would also warn any member of the public not to take any of these medicines as they should only ever be given under medical supervision.

"If anyone has been offered these hospital drugs or has any information which can help our inquiry I would ask them to contact Blantyre police office."
