Police have launched a murder investigation in Lanark after the death of a 25-year-old man.

Graeme Melville's body was found by Strathclyde Police, after they were called to a property in Smyllum Road at 04:00.

Officers have been examining the scene and conducting inquiries across the area.

They have urged anyone who may have seen Mr Melville in the hours leading up to his death to contact them.

Det Ch Insp Louise Raphael said: "This is a terrible crime. The loss of this young man's life has left his family and his friends absolutely devastated.

"It is imperative that we track down and bring to justice whoever is responsible."
