Police have appealed for help in finding a violent rapist who has been missing for more than a week.

Brian Andrews, 32, was last seen in the Lanark area of South Lanarkshire on Tuesday 6 September.

He was jailed for six-and-a-half years in 2004 for raping a woman twice and sexually assaulting her at her parents' home in Livingston, West Lothian.

Police believe he may be in Livingston and say Andrews is "violent" and "should not be approached if seen".

He is described as a white, 5ft 8in tall, of slim build, with short dark hair.

He may also have several days' facial hair growth. When last seen he was wearing a cream jacket and was in possession of a flight case and bag.

The officer leading the investigation, Det Insp Nicola Burnett, said Strathclyde Police had been working closely with Lothian and Borders Police to trace Andrews.

"It is believed he is in the Livingston area where Mr Andrews has strong ties," she said.

"Mr Andrews is in possession of a tent and may be camping out.

"I would appeal to anyone with information about the whereabouts of Mr Andrews to contact my officers at Blantyre police office."
