Wind farm proposal near Glenbarr in west Kintyre

Plans have been announced for a 26-turbine wind farm in Argyll and Bute.

Energy firm Burcote Wind said the development, near Glenbarr village in west Kintyre, could generate enough electricity to power 58,000 homes.

The company said, if approved, the project would be accompanied by a community benefit fund of £5.9m over its 25-year lifetime.

Burcote plans to consult with local communities before submitting a planning application next year.

Burcote chairman Graham Brown said: "Our proposed wind farm at Creggan has the potential to generate sufficient electricity to power substantially more than all of the households in Argyll and Bute.

"As such, it could make an important contribution towards meeting the Scottish Government's recently strengthened target of meeting 100% of Scotland's electricity needs from renewable sources by 2020."

Mr Brown said the firm would like to hear from local people how the proposed community fund could be used to support specific projects.
