Three arrests at university demo

Three men have been arrested after police were called to a protest at a meeting of the Glasgow University Conservative Club.

It is thought about 50 students had been picketing outside the university's union building, where a dinner was taking place for Conservative students.

Dozens of police officers tried to break up the protest after students attempted to block the entrance.

Two men aged 25 and a 20-year-old were arrested over a breach of the peace.

Meanwhile, in Edinburgh students were still refusing to leave university premises as protests continued over raising tuition fees and cutting higher education budgets.

Protesters have occupied a lecture theatre at Edinburgh University's Appleton Tower.
