A man and woman have suffered serious injuries during a disturbance in Fife.
Police Scotland said the pair were attacked at about 21:00 on Malcolm Road, Glenrothes, on Monday.
The 38-year-old man and 33-year-old woman were taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for treatment for serious injuries.
Officers believe it was not a random attack and are urging anyone with information to contact police at Glenrothes using the 101 number.
Insp Joanne McEwan said: "This was a serious incident resulting in a man and a woman receiving significant injuries, however, I would like to reassure the public that we are pursuing a number of positive lines of inquiry.
"I recognise that incidents of this nature can cause concern within the community but I would like to stress that this was not a random attack and we have no reason to believe there is a risk to the wider community.
"In the meanwhile officers will be carrying out additional high-visibility patrols and inquiries in the vicinity of Malcolm Road."
