Man in court over sex assaults in Livingston

A man has appeared in court in connection with sex attacks on two women in Livingston, West Lothian.

Mariusz Cieslar, 26, was charged with two counts of sexual assault under section 3 of the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009.

He made no plea or declaration during the brief private hearing at Livingston Sheriff Court on Monday.

The case was continued for further examination and Mr Cieslar, a Polish national, was remanded in custody.

The arrest follows a major police investigation following a report that a 21-year-old woman was attacked in her garden by a man in April.

Five weeks later a 27-year-old woman alleged that she had been assaulted in her flat.

Police Scotland launched high-profile patrols in the Eliburn area of the West Lothian town and used a helicopter to search the area.
