Lifeboat rescues kayaker from sea off North Berwick coast

The lifeboat crew rescue two men

A kayaker who fell into the sea off the coast at North Berwick in East Lothian has been rescued by a lifeboat crew.

Staff at a nearby visitor attraction spotted the man in the water on Sunday and called the coastguard.

The North Berwick Lifeboat was launched and the man was pulled from the water.

A second man, who was found trying to paddle back to shore with both kayaks, was also rescued. They were both treated for the effects of the cold.

Helmsman, Niall Grant, said: "Both casualties were lucky that members of the public spotted them and called 999.

"When you set out to sea it is important to have a way of contacting the coastguard should you get into difficulties, always check the weather forecast and tell someone ashore about your intentions."
