Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked in Edinburgh's Meadows at the weekend.

The 25-year-old was walking near the tennis courts at the east end of the park at about 04:30 on Saturday when he was approached by two men.

After asking the man for money, the two attackers punched him several times, causing minor facial injuries, and also tried to steal his watch.

Police Scotland said it was an unprovoked attack.

Det Con Emma Wilkinson said: "This was an unprovoked attack and, even though the two men didn't manage to steal any money or the watch, we are obviously very keen to identify them as soon as possible.

"Any members of the public who were walking in The Meadows in the early hours of Saturday morning and saw anything suspicious are urged to get in touch."

Both suspects were described as being white, in their early 20s, about 6ft, of slim build, clean shaven and with pale complexions. Both were well dressed and had Scottish accents.

The first suspect had short dark hair while the second had very fair hair.
