Police appeal after serious assault at George IV Bridge

Police have appealed for witnesses after a man was assaulted in the Cowgate area of Edinburgh on Easter Monday.

A 26-year-old man was attacked as he walked under the George IV Bridge towards the Grassmarket at about 03:00 on 21 April.

The man received multiple injuries including a broken collarbone and facial injuries.

After the assault he was taken to Edinburgh Royal Hospital for treatment.

CCTV footage showed the attacker as being a white, heavy male in his late teens or early 20s.

He was wearing a short-sleeved light coloured checked shirt and was in the company of four other men around the same age.

Det Sgt Lynsey Thomson said: "This was a very serious incident, which happened at a very busy area of the Cowgate early on Easter Monday.

"We are eager for people to come forward with any details which may assist police."
