A man who repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted a young girl handed himself in because he wanted his victim to have justice, a court has heard.
Allan Baillie, originally from Dunfermline, abused a 10-year-old girl for four years, from 1994, at various places in Fife.
At the High Court in Edinburgh, the 52-year-old, who now lives in Bournemouth, was jailed for more than seven years.
He pleaded guilty to rape and lewd, indecent and libidinous practices.
After keeping silent for more than 10 years, Baillie admitted the offences to detectives last year.
Jailing him for seven years and three months, judge Lord Kinclaven said Baillie had "wrecked lives" and the girl had been "deeply affected" by his actions.
Defence advocate Susan Duff said Baillie had waited for years "looking over his shoulder" because he knew he would eventually end up in court.
She said he went to the police himself because he thought it was a way of helping the girl.
"He cannot change what he has done but he can try to minimise the effect of what he has done by accepting responsibility," Ms Duff said.
"He wishes he could turn the clock back."
