The funeral of a 12-year-old girl who died after a wall fell on her at an Edinburgh school has been held.

Keane Wallis-Bennett was fatally hurt when a free-standing wall collapsed on her at Liberton High School on 1 April.

Her friends wore onesies to her funeral at the city's Mortonhall Crematorium after her family asked mourners to wear bright colours.

The school is due to open on 22 April following the Easter break.

A group of Keane's friends wore brightly coloured onesies and T-shirts bearing photographs of her as they followed the horse-drawn hearse to the ceremony.

During the the ceremony, which lasted more than an hour, a song composed by her friends called Keane's Song was played to the congregation.

The minister, Cameron Mackenzie, spoke about how Keane had packed so much into her short life.

Honouring and remembering

He spoke about how she played the violin, how she had a brown belt in karate and how she was a member of the pupil council.

She had loved every moment of her life and Hoovered up every experience, he added.

Mr McKenzie asked her friends to live their lives as Keane would have done as a way of honouring and remembering her.

He said to her friends: "Never forget Keane, but also never forget her family."

The minister asked them to send Keane's family postcards from their holidays and pictures from their future weddings.

The gym building where Keane died will remain closed, and could be demolished following the completion of a police investigation.

Similar walls have been identified in changing rooms and toilets at Leith Academy and Castlebrae High School, as well as in 11 primary schools across Edinburgh.

Some were cordoned off as a precaution while safety checks were carried out.
